SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANTONIO TX
230 PM CST MON MAR 22 1993

...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE ACROSS SOUTH TEXAS...

A WIDE BAND OF SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORMS STRETCHED ACROSS THE HILL COUNTRY
EASTWARD THROUGH SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST TEXAS THIS AFTERNOON. MOVEMENT
OF THE RAINS WERE TO THE EAST AT 25 MPH ALONG TWO SURFACE BOUNDARIES.

ONE BOUNDARY...A WEAKENING WARM FRONT...STRETCHED FROM ROCKSPRINGS EAST TO
HOUSTON AND BEYOND. THE OTHER BOUNDARY...A COLD FRONT...WAS LOCATED NEAR
SANDERSON IN THE EDWARDS PLATEAU REGION NORTHEASTWARD THROUGH JUNCTION AND
WACO.

AS THE COLD FRONT MOVES SOUTH...REACTING WITH THE MOIST UNSTABLE AIR OVER SOUTH
TEXAS...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH LOCALLY HIGH RAINFALL RATES DEVELOP.
BECAUSE OF THE SLOW MOVMENT OF THE COLD FRONT SOME SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MAYTRAVERSE THE SAME AREAS THROUGH TONIGHT CAUSING THE SOIL TO BECOME SATURATED
LEADING TO RUNOFF INTO CREEKS AND RIVERS VIA THE LOW WATER CROSSINGS AND
OTHER LOW LYING AREAS.

CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS REMAIN HIGH THROUGH TONIGHT OVER
THE EDWARDS PLATEAU AND THE ADJACENT HILL COUNTRY EASTWARD THROUGH SOUTH
CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST TEXAS. PERSONS LIVING IN OR NEAR FLOOD PLAINS SHOULD
BE AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF LARGE RAINFALL AMOUNTS TONIGHT AND BE PREPARED
TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IF NECESSARY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS AREAS COVERED
WITH WATERS OF UNKNOWN DEPTHS...BUT USE ALTERNATE ROUTES TO REACH YOUR
DESTINATION.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES ACROSS SOUTH TEXAS WILL PROVIDE
STATEMENTS THROUGH THE EVENING ON THIS RAINFALL EVENT TO KEEP YOU INFORMED
OF THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS.
