MAZALL-MAZ501-502-504-050100- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BOSTON MA 713 PM EDT WED AUG 4 1993 ...A VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORM WAS AFFECTING BOSTONS NORTHWEST SUBURBS THIS EVENING AND A SPECIAL MARINE WARNING WAS IN EFFECT FROM CAPE ANN TO BOSTON HARBOR UNTIL 8 PM... PEABODY REPORTED A WIND GUST OF ABOUT 50 MPH AROUND 7 PM AND THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS OF VERY HEAVY RAIN AND PEA SIZED HAIL IN THE STONEHAM... WAKEFIELD...WOBURN AREA OF BOSTONS NORTH AND NORTHWEST SUBURBS. STONEHAM HAD OVER HALF AN INCH OF RAIN IN 10 MINUTES. THERE WERE REPORTS OF NEARLY A DOZEN TREES DOWNED NEAR WOBURN CENTER AROUND 705 PM. RADAR AT 705 PM SHOWED THIS STRONG THUNDERSTORM DRIFTING EAST NORTHEAST TOWARD SALEM...SWAMPSCOTT...MARBLEHEAD AND LYNN. ALSO...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE OCCURRING EAST NORTHEAST OF THIS BIG STORM TOWARD BEVERLY AND MANCHESTER. CONDITIONS STILL REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS THIS EVENING. A STRONG WIND GUST AS WELL AS SMALL HAIL MAY ACCOMPANY THUNDERSTORMS IN PARTS BOSTONS NORTHERN AND WESTERN SUBURBS AND THE MERRIMACK VALLEY UNTIL ABOUT 8 PM. ALL INTERESTS SHOULD LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND OR WARNINGS FROM THE BOSTON AND WORCESTER OFFICES OF THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
