IN SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS ...POLK COUNTY AT 338 PM FORT SMITH RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM OVER VANDERVOORT ARKANSAS MOVING NORTHEAST AT 25 MILES AN HOUR. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. OKZ026>034-040-151200- EASTERN OKLAHOMA THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK 130 PM CDT THU MAY 14 1992 THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER ALL OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA THROUGH TONIGHT. THE ATMOSPHERE WAS ONCE AGAIN VERY UNSTABLE ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA THIS AFTERNOON. THE GREATEST INSTABILITY EARLY THIS AFTERNOON WAS IN PLACE OVER SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA WHERE SKIES HAVE BEEN MOSTLY SUNNY... ALLOWING FOR WARMER TEMPERATURES. HOWEVER IN THE NORTHEAST...CLOUDS HAVE BEEN THINNING...WHICH WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES THERE TO CLIMB AND THE ATMOSPHERE TO FURTHER DESTABLIZE. SURFACE OBSERVATIONS AND SATELLITE ALSO INDICATE THE PRESENCE OF A WEAK SURFACE BOUNDRY OVER EASTERN OKLAHOMA WHICH WOULD LIKELY BE THE FOCUS FOR THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT DURING THE AFTERNOON. WITH THE AMOUNT OF MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY PRESENT OVER THE AREA... ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME SEVERE WITH THE MAIN THREAT BEING LARGE HAIL AND STRONG WINDS. CIVIL DEFENSE AND SPOTTER GROUPS OVER THE AREA SHOULD REMAIN ALERT AND BE READY FOR ACTIVATION IF NECESSARY LATER THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TOMIGHT.
