KSZ013-014-015-016-152245- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TOPEKA KS 439 PM CDT WED JUL 15 1992 ....THUNDERSTORMS WERE BEGINNING TO DEVELOP OVER NORTHEAST KANSAS JUST BEFORE OF 430 PM CDT... RADAR AT 430 PM CDT SHOWED TWO ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ABOUT 60 MILES TO THE NORTHWEST OF TOPEKA. ONE WAS IN THE MARYSVILLE VICINITY AND THE OTHER NEAR THE KANSAS NEBRASKA BORDER ABOUT 15 MILES NORTHEAST OF MARYSVILLE. EVEN THOUGH THESE STORMS WERE IN THE DEVELOPING STAGE THEY WERE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING BRIEF HEAVY RAINS...GUSTY WINDS AND POSSIBLY SOME HAIL. PERSONS IN MARSHALL COUNTY...WHERE THESE STORMS ARE LOCATED SHOULD BE PREPARED TO SEEK SHELTER IF THESE STORMS INTENSIFY FURTHER AND A WARNING IS ISSUED. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS POSTED FOR MARSHALL...NEMAHA...RILEY ...GEARY AND POTTAWATOMIE COUNTIES UNTIL 10 PM CDT. THUNDERSTORMS WILL BECOME LIKELY ACROSS ALL OF NORTHEAST KANSAS AS THE EVENING PROGRESSES. SOME OF THESE COULD BE SEVERE WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS ALSO POSTED FOR NORTHEAST KANSAS MAINLY NORTH OF THE KANSAS RIVER. NORTHEAST KANSANS SHOULD KEEP AN EYE TO THE SKY FOR THREATENING WEATHER AND BE PREPARED TO SEEK SHELTER. AT 440PM...RADAR SHOWED A DEVELOPING LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS FROM NEAR MARYSVILLE TO 10 MILES SOUTH OF CONCORDIA TO JUST SOUTH OF RUSSELL. THE STRONGEST STORMS WERE 5 MILES NORTH OF CLAY CENTER...NEAR PAWNEE ROCK... AND NEAR FREDERICK OR 10 MILES SOUTH OF KANOPOLIS. THESE MAY CONTAIN HAIL...WINDS OVER 40 MPH AND VERY HEAVY RAINS. ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS LIKELY WITH THESE STORMS AS THEY MOVE SLOWLY EASTWARD.
