WVZ005-009-010-MDZ008-009-112000- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ELKINS WV 300 PM EDT TUE AUG 11 1992 ...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH CONTINUES IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR MUCH OF NORTHERN AND EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA AND WESTERN MARYLAND... WEATHER RADAR AT 255 PM EDT INDICATED A LINE OF VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS EXTENDING FROM DODDRIDGE COUNTY EAST ACROSS HARRISON THRU TAYLOR INTO SOUTHERN PRESTON AND NORTHERN TUCKER COUNTIES OF WEST VIRGINIA ON EAST ACROSS SOUTHERN GARRETT COUNTY MARYLAND THRU MINERAL AND HAMPSHIRE COUNTIES IN THE POTOMAC HIGHLANDS OF WEST VIRGINIA. THE STRONGEST STORMS WERE OVER TAYLOR...PRESTON AND HAMPSHIRE COUNTIES OF WEST VIRIGNIA. THIS LINE IS MOVING SLOWLY SOUTHEAST AND WILL AFFECT THE AREA ALONG A LINE FROM WESTON TO PHILIPPI TO PARSONS ON EAST TO WARDENSVILLE DURING THE NEXT HOUR. HEAVY RAINS AND PEA SIZE HAIL HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITH THESE STORMS. HOWEVER, STRONG GUSTY WINDS...HAIL...DANGEROUS LIGHTNING AND HEAVY RAINS ARE POSSIBLE. FLOODING TO LOW-LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS COULD OCCUR IN AREAS OF HEAVY RAINS ALONG WITH REDUCED DRIVING VISIBILITIES. STAY ALERT AND MOVE INDOORS IF THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES. WEATHER RADAR AT 340 PM INDICATED AN AREA OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NORTHER LEWIS...SOUTHERN HARRISON...BARBOUR AND TUCKER COUNTIES OF WEST VIRGINIA. THE STRONGEST STORM WAS JUST NORTHEAST OF PHILIPPI IN BARBOUR COUNTY MOVING SOUTHEAST TOWARD TUCKER COUNTY. SEVERAL REPORTS OF OVER AN INCH OF RAIN HAS BEEN RECEIVED FROM THESE STORMS ALONG WITH DANGEROUS LIGHTNING STRIKES. TWO PEOPLE IN NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA HAVE BEEN STRUCK WITH LIGHTNING.
