FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  815 PM MST
FOR THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS......
 
IN EAST CENTRAL ARIZONA
 
   ...NORTHERN GILA COUNTY
 
A SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORM WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN HAS MOVED OVER THE
AREA NORTH OF PAYSON BELOW THE MOGOLLON RIM.
 
THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS FOR STREAMS AND WASHES FLOWING SOUTH FROM
THE MOGOLLON RIM IN NORTHCENTRAL AND NORTHWEST GILA COUNTY...ROUGHLY
IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY STATE HIGHWAY 260 WEST OF CHRISTOPHER CREEK
...STATE 87 EAST OF STRAWBERRY...AND THE MOGOLLON RIM. IT INCLUDES
TONTO CREEK AND THE EAST VERDE ABOVE THESE HIGHWAYS.
 
SECTIONS OF THIS AREA BURNED OVER BY THE DUDE FIRE IN 1990 ARE
ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE TO FLOODING. CAMPERS SHOULD GET AWAY FROM ALL
STREAMS AND CANYON BOTTOMS...HEAD FOR HIGH GROUND.
 
FLASH FLOODING IS MOST DANGEROUS IN THE MOUNTAINS...ALONG STREAMS IN
NARROW STEEP WALLED CANYONS. MANY DEATHS HAVE RESULTED WHEN MOTORISTS
TRIED TO OUTRACE A FLOOD IN THESE CANYONS. CLIMB TO SAFETY IF A FLOOD
DEVELOPS.
