OKC004>021-161200- OKLAHOMA THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OKLAHOMA CITY OK 100 PM CDT FRI MAY 15 1992 THIS THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK APPLIES ONLY TO OKLAHOMA ZONES 4 THROUGH 21. THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT ACROSS ALL OF CENTRAL...WESTERN...AND SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA. EARLY THIS AFTERNOON...A WEAK FRONTAL BOUNDARY WAS LOCATED ACROSS NORTHCENTRAL OKLAHOMA AND EXTENDED NORTHWEST INTO WESTERN KANSAS. WARM AND MOIST AIR WAS PRESENT ACROSS WESTERN...CENTRAL...AND SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA. LIGHT SOUTHERLY WINDS WERE CONTINUING TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE ACROSS THE REGION WITH WIND SPEEDS EXPECTED TO INCREASE DURING THE AFTERNOON AS LOW PRESSURE INTENSIFIES ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS. THIS WILL INCREASE THE CONVERGENCE ALONG THE WEAK FRONT IN NORTHCENTRAL OKLAHOMA. SEVERAL WEAK OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES WERE ALSO PRESENT ACROSS THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON...THE REMNANTS OF THUNDERSTORMS LAST EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. AFTERNOON HEATING OF THE UNSTABLE AIR MASS COMBINED WITH THE FRONT...OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES...AND THE EFFECTS OF THE HIGHER TERRAIN IN SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA WILL RESULT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. IN ADDITION...THUNDERSTORMS THAT WILL DEVELOP ACROSS WEST TEXAS THIS AFTERNOON COULD MOVE SLOWLY INTO WESTERN OKLAHOMA. WINDS ALOFT ACROSS THE AREA ARE RELATIVELY WEAK THIS AFTERNOON. A WIND PROFILE OF THIS NATURE FAVORS THE DEVELOPMENT OF SLOW-MOVING STORMS THAT BRIEFLY INTENSIFY AND THEN RAPIDLY WEAKEN. DURING THE INTENSE PHASE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND TORRENTIAL RAINFALL. LOCALIZED VERY STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THE RAPID WEAKENING PHASE OF THE THUNDERSTORMS. ALTHOUGH WIDESPREAD SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE NOT EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...SPOTTER GROUPS ACROSS WESTERN...CENTRAL...AND SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR ACTIVATION SHOULD THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP IN THE VICINITY.
