NJZ001-005-007-015-NYZ014>017-023-024-112000- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT - SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 105 PM EDT TUE AUG 11 1992 ...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF NORTHERN NEW JERSEY EXCEPT FOR SUSSEX...WARREN AND NORTHWEST PASSAIC COUNTIES... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADARS HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING A BLOSSOMING CLUSTER OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER PENNSYLVANIA. THE CLOSEST THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS TO NEW JERSEY AS OF 100 PM WERE LOCATED ABOUT 10 MILES WEST OF ALLENTOWN. THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING EAST AT 30 MILES AN HOUR WHICH MEANS THE ALLENTWON THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD ENTER NEW JERSEY NEAR PHILLIPSBURG AND HOLLAND ALONG THE HUNTERDON/WARREN COUNTY LINES CLOSE TO 130 PM. ANOTHER THUNDERSTORM WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS WAS ALSO DEVELOPING NEAR PORT JERVIS IN ORNAGE COUNTY. THIS THUNDERSTORM WILL MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS ORANGE COUNTY DURING THE NEXT HOUR TRAVELING SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 84 AND PASS THROUGH FLORIDA AND MONROE ON ITS WAY EASTWARD. REMEMBER A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF NEW JERSEY. BUT...THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THUNDERSTORMS OUTSIDE OF THE WATCH AREA WILL BE WEAK. CTZALL-111725- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BRIDGEPORT CT 132 PM EDT TUE AUG 11 1992 ...AT 130 PM EDT THUNDERSTORMS WERE LOCATED IN THE HUDSON VALLEY OF NEW YORK...BETWEEN GOSHEN AND NEWBURGH. THESES STORMS WERE INCREASING IN INTENSITY AS THEY MOVE TO THE EAST AT 30 MPH AND EXSPECTED TO REACH SOUTH WESTERN PORTIONS OF CONNECTICUT...BETWEEN RIDGEFIELD AND NEW FAIRFIELD BY 230 PM EDT. NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO TIE DOWN OBJECTS THAT MAY BE PICKED UP BY GUSTY WINDS. THESE STORMS WILL CONTAIN HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND LIGHTENING. IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE AS THEY APPROACH SEEK SHELTER INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. SHERWOOD PEOPLE IN CONNECTICUT SHOULD REMAIN ALERT TO THE POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND POSSIBLE TORNADOES.
