THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ST LOUIS HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  900 PM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
 
   ...NORTHEASTERN MADISON COUNTY
 
SINCE 5 PM THIS EVENING...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM HAS BEEN DRIFTING ACROSS
NORTHEAST MADISON COUNTY. THE AREA AFFECTED IS JUST EAST OF
FREDERICKTOWN..OR ABOUT 60 MILES SOUTH OF ST LOUIS.
 
THE INTENSITY OF THIS STORM...ALONG WITH THE SLOW MOVEMENT...IS CAUSING
EXTREMELY HEAVY RAINS OVER NORTHEAST MADISON COUNTY.  NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATES THAT OVER 3 INCHES OF RAIN MAY HAVE
FALLEN FROM THIS STORM BETWEEN 520 AND 620 PM THIS EVENING.
 
AREAS IN AND AROUND THE TOWNS OF MINE LA MOTTE AND JUNCTION CITY ARE IN
PARTICULAR DANGER...AS WELL AS THOSE DRIVING ALONG COUNTY HIGHWAY
J...AND STATE HIGHWAY 72...EAST OF FREDRICKTOWN.
 
IN ADDITION TO THIS FLASH FLOOD WARNING...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR NORTHEAST MADISON COUNTY UNTIL 7 PM.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT.  IT'S
IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE RELATIVE TO STREAMS...RIVERS...OR
CREEKS WHICH CAN BECOME KILLERS IN HEAVY RAINS.  CAMPERS SHOULD
AVOID CAMPING ALONG STREAMS OR CREEKS DURING THREATENING RAINS.
 
MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A
SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
