THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RENO HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING  EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1030 PM PDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN NORTH CENTRAL NEVADA
 
   ...NORTHERN LANDER COUNTY
 
IN NORTHEAST NEVADA
 
   ...WESTERN ELKO COUNTY
 
FLOODING WAS REPORTED ON HIGHWAY 305...25 MILES SOUTH OF BATTLE
MOUNTAIN NEVADA JUST BEFORE 8 PM THIS EVENING.  WATER AND ROCKS WERE
REPORTED OVER THE ROADWAY.
 
THE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING THIS FLOODING WERE MOVING TO THE NORTHEAST
BETWEEN 10 AND 15 MPH.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN
OBSERVED.  PEOPLE NEAR STREAMS AND OTHER DRAINAGES IN THE WARNING
AREA SHOULD BE READY TO MOVE IMMEDIATELY.  ESCAPE RISING WATER BY
CLIMBING DIRECTLY TO HIGHER GROUND..NEVER TRY TO OUT RACE A FLOOD
EITHER ON FOOT OR IN YOUR CAR.
 
MOTORISTS ARE AMONG THE LEADING FATALITIES IN FLASH FLOODS. WASHOUTS
AND FLOODED ROADWAYS CAN PUT YOU SUDDENLY INTO LIFE THREATENING
SITUATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES..DIPS..OR LOW SPOTS IF
WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. IT MAY NOT BE INTACT UNDER THE WATER.
ABANDON YOUR CAR IMMEDIATELY IF IT BECOMES STUCK OR STALLS.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
PRESENCE AND DANGER OF FLOODING.
