730 PM EDT FRI  APR 24 1992

...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT FOR THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS..
NORTHERN FOOTHILLS AND MADISON COUNTY OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS OF
NORTH CAROLINA UNTIL 1100PM...

AT 720 PM WEATHER SERVICE RADAR SHOWED A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA.  THE STRONGEST
STORMS WERE NORTH OF FRANKLIN  IN MACON COUNTY AND NORTH OF MURPHY IN
CHEROKEE COUNTY.  THEY WERE MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH.

OTHER VERY STRONG STORMS WERE IN EASTERN TENNESSEE NEAR KNOXVILLE AND
CHATTANOOGA.

MARBLE SIZE HAIL WAS REPORTED IN CHEROKEE COUNTY AT AROUND 645PM FROM
AN EARLIER STORM.
THE STRONG STORMS MAY PRODUCE HAIL..STRONG WINDS..HEAVY RAIN AS WELL
AS DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.

IF THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES MOVE INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING UNTIL
THE STORM HAS PASSED.

...THUNDERSTORMS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHERN TIER OF THE UPSTATE...

AT 820 PM SOME STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING THROUGH THE
SOUTHWEST CORNER OF NORTH CAROLINA NEAR THE SOUTH CAROLINA BORDER.
ONE STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR CAESERS HEAD SC MOVING EASTWARD.
REPORTS OF MARBLE TO GOLF BALL SIZE HAIL HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN
PARTS OF TENNESSEE AND NORTH CAROLINA THIS EVENING WITH THESE STORMS AND
WERE MOVING EASTWARD AT AROUND 30 TO 40 MPH.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL MONITOR THESE STORMS AS THEY
MOVE TOWARD NORTHERN AREAS OF THE UPSTATE
STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER >RADIO...TV...OR RADIO STATIONS FOR FURTHER
STATEMNETS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
