NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ASHEVILLE NC
730 PM EDT FRI  APR 24 1992

...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT FOR THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS..
NORTHERN FOOTHILLS AND MADISON COUNTY OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS OF
NORTH CAROLINA UNTIL 1100PM...

AT 720 PM WEATHER SERVICE RADAR SHOWED A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA.  THE STRONGEST
STORMS WERE NORTH OF FRANKLIN  IN MACON COUNTY AND NORTH OF MURPHY IN
CHEROKEE COUNTY.  THEY WERE MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH.

OTHER VERY STRONG STORMS WERE IN EASTERN TENNESSEE NEAR KNOXVILLE AND
CHATTANOOGA.

MARBLE SIZE HAIL WAS REPORTED IN CHEROKEE COUNTY AT AROUND 645PM FROM
AN EARLIER STORM.
THE STRONG STORMS MAY PRODUCE HAIL..STRONG WINDS..HEAVY RAIN AS WELL
AS DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.

IF THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES MOVE INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING UNTIL
THE STORM HAS PASSED.
