FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  145 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN  SOUTH CAROLINA
 
   ...COLLETON COUNTY...HAMPTON COUNTY
 
...FLOOD WARNING FOR SMALL STREAMS...
 
HEAVY RAINS DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OVER SECTIONS OF HAMPTON
AND COLLETON COUNTY HAS RESULTED IN FLOODING OF NUMEROUS SMALL STREAM
AND RIVERS IN THE UPPER SECTIONS OF THE COUNTIES. AS THE RUNOFF FROM
THIS HEAVY RAIN CONTINUES FLOODING IS LIKELY DOWN STREAM THIS
AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.
 
HAMPTON AND COLLETON COUNTY HAVE REPORTED SEVERAL ROAD CLOSURES DUE TO
THE FLOODING.  A BRIDGE WAS WASHED OUT ALONG HIGHWAY 13 AT WHIPPY SWAMALSO WATER IS UP TO THE BRIDGE AT HIGHWAY 601  AND HIGHWAY 43 AT JACKS
BRANCH ALL IN HAMPTON COUNTY. IRELAND CREEK IN THE CITY OF WALTERBORO
WAS REPORTED IN FLOOD STAGE.
 
RAINFALL REPORTS DURING THE LAST 24 HOURS...HAMPTON 5.5 INCHES...7.5
INCHES IN LODGE...AND 9.5 INCHES AT FAIRFAX. MOST OF THE HEAVY RAIN HAMOVED OUT OF THE AREA AT THIS TIME.
 
IF YOU LIVE OR WORK ALONG STREAMS IN THE AREA...TAKE NECESSARY
PRECAUTIONS...NOW...TRAVELERS SHOULD AVOID LOW LYING AREAS ALONG
STREAMS AND SEEK ALTERNATE ROUITES...
 
A FOLLOW-UP STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED AT 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON.
 
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
