THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TULSA HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1230 PM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES ...
 
IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA
 
   ...OSAGE COUNTY
 
AT 8 25 AM THE TULSA WEATHER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAINS FALLING OVER
PORTIONS OF OSAGE COUNTY. THUNDERSTORMS HAVE PRODUCED OVER 5 INCHES OF
RAINFALL IN CENTRAL OSAGE COUNTY EARLIER THIS MORNING...AND ADDITIONAL
RAINS WILL WORSEN THE FLOODING THAT IS OCCURRING NOW. THE OSAGE COUNTY
SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT REPORTS THAT SH60 WEST OF PAWHUSKA IS CLOSED WITH
3 TO 4 FEET OF WATER NOW OVER THE ROADWAY. RESIDENTS LIVING NEAR ANY
LOW-LYING AREAS AS WELL AS CREEK BASINS SHOULD MOVE TO A SAFE PLACE
NOW.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS LIKELY OR HAS BEEN
REPORTED.  STAY ALERT AND WATCH FOR RAPIDLY RISING WATER.
REMEMBER...IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE RELATIVE TO THE
NEAREST STREAM...CREEK OR RIVER WHICH CAN BECOME A KILLER DURING
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN.
 
MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT DRIVE YOUR
VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY.  THE WATER
MAY BE TOO DEEP TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY.  IF YOUR
VEHICLE GETS CAUGHT IN RISING WATER...ABANDONED IT QUICKLY.  THEN
MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
