SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK
410 PM CDT SAT APR 21 1990

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA...

SEVERAL STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN HAVE DEVELOPED IN
NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA. AT 400 PM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR
INDICATED DEVELOPING STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IN EXTREME NORTHEAST OSAGE
COUNTY EAST OF HULAH RESERVOIR...IN CENTRAL OSAGE COUNTY 3 MILES NORTH
OF BARNSDALL...IN WESTERN TULSA COUNTY WEST OF SAND SPRINGS...AND IN
CENTRAL PAWNEE COUNTY MIDWAY BETWEEN PAWNEE AND CLEVELAND. THESE
STORMS HAVE FORMED IN THE MOIST UNSTABLE AIR IN THE VICINITY OF A WEAK
SURFACE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE. AT THIS TIME THE STORMS ARE CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN AND BRIEF GUSTY WINDS AS THEY MOVE TO THE
EAST SOUTHEAST AT AROUND 10 MPH.

THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INTENSIFY THIS AFTERNOON WITH A FEW STORMS
REACHING SEVERE LEVELS. THE STORMS THAT BECOME SEVERE WILL BE CAPABLE
OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. FLASH FLOODING
WILL ALSO BE A THREAT TO THE AREAS THAT RECEIVE THE RAINFALL FROM THE
STRONGER STORMS BECAUSE OF SLOW STORM MOVEMENT AND SATURATED GROUNDS.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF NORTHEAST
OKLAHOMA UNTIL 9 PM.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR COMMERCIAL RADIO OR TELEVISION FOR
LATER UPDATES OR POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
