000 TTAA00 KSLC 250049 RRA SVRSLC UTC035-250300- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT 646 PM MDT FRI AUG 24 1990 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 900 PM MDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...... IN NORTH CENTRAL UTAH ...SALT LAKE COUNTY A HIGH WIND WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR SALT LAKE COUNTY UNTIL 9 PM FOR MICROBURST WINDS WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH OR MORE AND AREAS OF BLOWING DUST AND DEBRIS. AN OBSERVER IN WEST KEARNS NEAR 6000 WEST AND 6000 SOUTH REPORTED A GUST OF 62 MPH AT 638 PM. THESE WINDS ARE USUALLY OF VERY SHORT DURATION BUT CAN BE EXTREMEL|Y STRONG. 08/25/0045 ERC

UTZ001>003-250500- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT 625 PM MDT FRI AUG 24 1990 ...MICROBURSTS LIKELY FOR NORTHWEST UTAH THROUGH THIS EVENING... WIDELY SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE MOVING THROUGH AND DEVELOPING OVER NORTHWEST UTAH THIS EVENING. VISUAL OBSERVATIONS CONFIRM MICROBURSTS WERE OCCURRING JUST EAST OF THE OQUIRRH MOUNTAINS IN THE SALT LAKE VALLEY AT 615 PM. SATELLITE IMAGERY AND LIGHTNING DETECTION DEVICES ALSO INDICATED THAT STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE OCCURRING IN NORTHEAST NEVADA AND SHIFTING NORTHEASTWARD. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CAUSE SOME MICROBURSTS IN NORTHWEST UTAH THIS EVENING WITH GUSTS IN THE 40-50 MPH RANGE WITH LOCALLY HIGHER GUSTS POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION...THERE WILL BE SOME AREAS OF BLOWING DUST WHICH WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO 3 MILES OR LESS. PERSONS IN NORTHWEST UTAH SHOULD SECURE LOOSE OBJECTS OUTSIDE THEIR HOMES. THESE OBJECTS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THEY BbECOME AIRBORNE. ALSO...MOTORISTS WITH LIGHTWEIGHT OR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR SUDDEN WIND GUSTS THAT COULD MAKE DRIVING HAZARDOUS.
