000 TTAA00 KSLC 100002 SVRSLC UTC021-100100- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT 601 PM MDT SAT JUN 9 1990 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 700 PM MDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION IN SOUTHWEST UTAH ...IRON COUNTY THUNDERSTORMS MOVING NORTH INTO SOUTHWEST UTAH ARE PRODUCING VERY STRONG WINDS. AT 545 PM A WIND GUST TO 59 MPH WAS RECORDED AT THE CEDAR CITY AIRPORT. SINCE THIS BAND OF THUNDERSTORMS IS SHOWING A TENDENCY FOR VERY STRONG WINDS...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS BEING ISSUED UNTIL 7 PM TONIGHT FOR IRON COUNTY UTAH. PERSONS IN IRON COUNTY CAN EXPECT WIND GUSTS TO NEAR 60 MPH WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN... LIGHTNING...AND HAIL. WHEN THUNDERSTORMS APPROACH...IT IS BEST TO TAKE COVER INDOORS. STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS UNTIL THE STORM PASSES. THE STRONG WINDS FROM THESE THUNDERSTORMS MAY CAUSE AREAS OF BLOWING DUST AND REDUCE VISIBILITY.

...THUNDERSTORMS RUMBLING OVER PARTS OF UTAH...
THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED IN A SHOTGUN PATTERN OVER MUCH OF UTAH
THIS AFTERNOON. THIS IS THE INITIAL SURGE OF ACTIVITY IN WHAT
PROMISES TO BE A RATHER WET PATTERN FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
HOWEVER FOR THE REMAINDER OF TODAY THE LOW LEVELS OF THE AIRMASS
REMAIN SOMEWHAT DRY. THIS LEADS TO A GOOD CHANCE OF STRONG GUSTY
WINDS AS THE FIRST THUNDERSTORMS MOVE ACROSS AN AREA.
A COUPLE OF LOCATIONS HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF WIND. A
SPOTTER IN HEBER REPORTED WINDS GUSTING TO ABOUT 50 MPH JUST AFTER
3 PM. GUSTS OF ABOUT 45 MPH HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTED JUST WEST OF THE
UTAH BORDER IN ELY NEVADA.
THOSE ENGAGED IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE ALERT TO DEVELOPING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AROUND THEM FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS
EVENING THE MAIN THREATS WILL BE THE GUSTY WINDS AND THE EVER PRESENT
THREAT OF CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING FROM THE THUNDERSTORMS.
AS THE AIRMASS CONTINUES TO GET MORE MOIST...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL
IS POSSIBLE FROM SOME OF THE SHOWERS LATER TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. THIS
MAY CAUSE MINOR...BUT STILL POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS...FLOODING OF SMALL
STREAMS OR NORMALLY DRY WASHES. CAMPING OR HIKING IN THIS TYPE OF
AREA SHOULD BE AVOIDED FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
THE UNSETTLED...SHOWERY PATTERN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE FIRST PART
OSF THE WEEK BEFORE GRADUAL DRYING DEVELOPS FROM THE SOUTH.
