NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ABILENE TX
515 PM CDT THU SEP 20 1990

HEAVY RAINFALL OVER PORTIONS OF NOLAN AND TAYLOR COUNTIES HAS CAUSED
FLOODING ALONG ELM CREEK...NEAR AND ABOVE LAKE ABILENE. AT 5 PM CDT
ABILENE CITY OFFICIALS REPORTED ELM CREEK OVERFLOWING ITS BANKS ABOVE
LAKE ABILENE...AND COVERING FARM ROAD 89 NEAR THE LAKE. FM 89 WILL BE
CLOSED NEAR LAKE ABILENE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

LAKE ABILENE IS CURRENTLY OVERFLOWING THE DRAW-DOWN TUBE (NOT THE
SPILLWAY) BY ONE FOOT AND THE LAKE APPEARS TO HAVE CRESTED NEAR THAT
POINT. NO SERIOUS FLOODING IS ANTICIPATED BETWEEN LAKE ABILENE AND THE
CITY OF ABILENE UNLESS ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINS FALL ON THE ELM CREEK
WATERSHED.

ABILENE CITY OFFICIALS ARE CLOSELY MONITORING THE LAKE ABILENE/ELM
CREEK SITUATION.

ADDITIONAL SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE BIG
COUNTRY TONIGHT AND FRIDAY AND PERSONS LIVING NEAR..$.OR WITH INTERESTS
ALONG...ELM CREEK SHOULD STAY ABREAST OF DEVELOPING WEATHER CONDITIONS.
