AZZ007-020200 SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE YUMA AZ 310 PM MST SUN SEP 30 1990 ...A THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPED RAPIDLY OVER THE GILA MOUNTAINS...EAST OF YUMA... RAINFALL BEGAN AROUND 2:30 THIS AFTERNOON...AND HALF INCH HAIL WAS OBSERVED. WINDS WERE NOT STRONG...AROUND 25 MPH...BUT AN INCH OF RAIN WAS ESTIAMTED IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES...WITH RUNNING WASHES. THE STORM WAS MOVING SLOWLY TO THE SOUTH...AND SHOWERS WERE DECREASING SINCE 3 PM. MORE THUNDERSTORMS WERE DEVELOPING IN SOUTHWEST ARIZONA...AS A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE AREA MOVED SLOWLY EAST. MOTORISTS SHOULD TRAVEL WITH CAUTION AND NOT TRY TO CROSS RUNNING WASHES...BECAUSE A CAR CAN EASILY LOSE TRACTION AND BE SWEPT OFF THE ROAD. THUNDERSTORMS WILL DECREASE AFTER DARK AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES EAST AND THE AIR COOLS. . MATHESON
