IN SOUTH CENTRAL WASHINGTON ...SOUTHEASTERN BENTON COUNTY...SOUTHERN FRANKLIN COUNTY ...WALLA WALLA COUNTY THUNDERSTORMS AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN NORTHCENTRAL OREGON. THESE STORMS ARE MOVING NORTHEASTWARD AND COULD MOVE INTO SOUTHEASTERN WASHINGTON IN THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. PENDLETON OREGON REPORTED WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH DURING THE PAST HOUR. IF A THUNDERSHORMS APPROACHES PEOPLE SHOULD MOVE INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING. DO NOT STAND BY WINDOWS. MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTREME CAUTION. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. ORZ010-060230- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PENDLETON OR 730 PM PDT THU JUL 6 1990 STRONG WIND AND LOCAL BLOWING DUST ACROSS PARTS UMATILLA COUNTIES... AND MORROW COUNTIES. THUNDERSTORMS THAT MOVED UP THE EAST SIDE OF THE CASCADES ALONG WITH A WESTERLY PUSH OF MARINE AIRHAS COMBINED TO CREATE WESTERLY WINDS WITH GUSTS TO NEAR 50 MPH AT THE PENDLETON AIRPORT. WITH THE TOP LAYER OF THE SOIL VERY DRY AND POWDERRY THE WIND IS CAUSING BLOWING DUST WITH POOR VISIBILITY. THERE ARE ALSO A FEW THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MORROW COUNTY. THE STRONG WIND WILL CAUSE POOR DRIVING CONDITIONS AND STRONG WINDS COULD ALSO DO SOME MINOR DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWER LINES.
