OKZALL-301200- OKLAHOMA THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK...UPDATED NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OKLAHOMA CITY OK...CORRECTED DATE 255 PM CDT MON MAY 28 1990 ...TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 345 FOR MUCH OF WESTERN OKLAHOMA UNTIL 9 PM... OTHERWISE...THERE IS A HIGH RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT OVER WESTERN OKLAHOMA...WEST OF A LINE FROM ALVA ...TO EL RENO...TO WAURIKA. A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXTENDS AS FAR EAST AS TULSA...MCALESTER...AND DURANT. A VERY STRONG TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE IN THE MID AND UPPER LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE WAS MOVING THROUGH NEW MEXICO THIS AFTERNOON AND WILL ENTER NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA WEDNESDAY MORNING. AS THIS OCCURS...THE WINDS ABOVE THE SURFACE WILL INCREASE AND CREATE A WIND STRUCTURE FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE STORMS THROUGH TONIGHT. AT THE SURFACE A WARM FRONT WAS DEVELOPING ALONG THE RED RIVER AND A DRYLINE WAS PUSHING RAPIDLY EASTWARD THROUGH WEST TEXAS. THE AIRMASS WAS DESTABILIZING QUICKLY THIS AFTERNOON AS WARM MOIST AIR FLOWED INTO THE REGION FROM SOUTH TEXAS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS HAVE ALREADY DEVELOPED FROM WESTERN OKLAHOMA INTO SOUTHWESTERN TEXAS. ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS LIKELY OVER OKLAHOMA THROUGH TONIGHT AS THE NEW MEXICO STORM SYSTEM APPROACHES...THE WARM FRONT MOVES NORTHWARD AND THE DRYLINE PUSHES EAST. SOME OF THE STORMS WILL BE SEVERE PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND HEAVY RAINFALL. THE GREASTEST THREAT FOR TORNADOES THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WILL BE IN WESTERN OKLAHOMA...ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS WILL MONITOR THE RAPIDLY CHANGING SEVERE WEATHER SITUATION AND ISSUE ADDITIONAL STATEMENTS AS NECESSARY. TXZ020-019-292100- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WICHITA FALLS TX 300 PM CDT TUE MAY 29 1990 ...TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS INCLUDING THE COUNTIES OF ARCHER..BAYLOR..CLAY..FOARD..HARDEMAN..KNOX..WICHITA..WILBARGER AND YOUNG UNTIL 10 PM CDT AND INCLUDES COTTON COUNTY OF SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA UNTIL 9PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING... IN OKLAHOMA SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WERE FROM THE RED RIVER NEAR CHILDRESS TO NORTH OF ALTUS TO NEAR PONCA CITY. MOVEMENT WAS NORTHEAST AT 30 MPH. IN TEXAS SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS..SOME WITH TORNADOES THE PREVIOUS HOUR..WERE SCATTERED FROM SOUTH OF AMARILLO TO LUBBOCK TO SOUTH OF MIDLAND. MOVEMENT WAS NORTHEAST AT 30 MPH. THIS TORNADO WATCH UPDATES THE TORNADO WATCH THAT WAS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9PM CDT FOR THIS PORTION OF NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS. THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP ACROSS WEST TEXAS..SOME SEVERE WITH TORNADOES..THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND MOVE ACROSS THIS PORTION OF NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS. REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
