IN SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO IN EDDY COUNTY AT 718 PM MDT...A THUNDERSTORM MOVING SOUTHEASTWARD FROM THE MOUNTAINS PRODUCED WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 70 MILES AN HOUR AT LAKEWOOD...12 MILES SOUTH OF ARTESIA. A FUNNEL CLOUD WAS ALSO REPORTED BY THE STATE POLICE 5 MILES WEST OF CARLSBAD. THE THUNDERSTORM IS MOVING SLOWLY TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST...APPROACHING THE CITY OF CARLSBAD. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN.
