THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN COLUMBIA HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  245 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN  SOUTH CAROLINA
 
   ...CLARENDON COUNTY...KERSHAW COUNTY...LEE COUNTY...SUMTER COUNTY
 
AT 1130 AM RADAR INDICATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE
TO MOVE ACROSS AREAS THAT HAVE BECOME SATURDATED FROM HEAVY
RAINS THAT OCCURRED OVERNIGHT AND THIS MORNING. AN OBSERVER
IN SUMTER COUNTY REPORTED 15 INCHES OF RAIN FROM THIS STORM
AND CLARENDON...LEE AND KERSHAW COUNTIES HAVE HAD OVER 12
INCHES OF RAIN. UP TO 3 ADDITIONAL INCHES OF RAIN IS EXPECTED
IN THIS AREA THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE TAPERING OFF. AT LEAST 3 DAMS
INCLUDING DAMS IN THE WESTVILLE...BUFFALO AND MOUNT PISGAH AREA
IN KERSHAW COUNTY HAVE FAILED AND OTHERS IN THE AREA ARE AT BANK
FULL.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREANM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
