555 PM CDT FRI JUN 30 1989

SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS DROPPING VERY HEAVY RAINS LINGERED OVER
PARTS OF NORTHEAST AND EASTCENTRAL KANSAS SHORTLY BEFORE 6PM THIS
EVENING. ONE STRONG STORM WAS JUST NORTH OF TOPEKA IN NORTHERN
SHAWNEE COUNTY...WHILE ANOTHER STRONG STORM WAS STILL IN SOUTHWEST
SHAWNEE COUNTY. A THIRD STORM WAS ABOUT 10 MILES SOUTHWEST OF LAWRENCE.

A WIND GUST TO 47 MPH AND ONE HALF INCH OF RAIN IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES
WERE REPORTED FROM SOUTHWEST SHAWNEE COUNTY AROUND 520PM.

HEAVY RAINS FROM THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL FLOOD LOW LYING AND POOR
DRAINAGE AREAS QUICKLY. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EF9FECT FOR THE
ENTIRE AREA OVERNIGHT AS ADDITIONAL RAINS COULD CAUSE FLASH FLOODING
AND STREAMS AND CREEKS.

AT 612PM PEA SIZE HAIL...VERY HEAVY RAIN AND INTENSE LIGHTNING
WAS OCCURING AT NATIONAL WEAiTHER SRVICE OFFICE IN TOPEKA.

SLIGHTLY OVER 3 TENTHS OF AN INCH OF RAIN HAS FALLEN IN ABOUT
10 MINUTES.

THIS STORMS IS MOVING SLOWLY EAST..AND WILL MOVE INTO NORTHWEST
DOUGLASS COUNTY AROUND 630PM-645 PM.

THUNDERSTORMS HAD WEAKENED RAPIDLY OVER NORTHEAST AND EASTCENTRAL
KANSAS SINCE 630PM. AT 7 O CLOCK A THUNDERSTORM WITH HEAVY
RAIN WAS ABOUT 50 MILES EAST OF EMPORIA IN SOUTHERN ANDERSON
COUNTY...WHILE OTHER LIGHTER SHOWERS WERE 30 MILES NORTH AND ABOUT 45
MILES SOUTH OF TOPEKA.

NO SEVERE WEATHER HAS BEEN REPORTED OVER NORTHEAST KANSAS TONIGHT.
HOWEVER LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS HAVE PRODUCE TEMPORARY FLOODING OF LOW
LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. ONE QUARTER INCH HAIL FELL AT
BILLARD AIRPORT IN TOPEKA AND WINDS TO 47 MPH WERE REPORTED IN SOUTH-
WEST SHAWNEE COUNTY.

THE POTENTIAL FOR MORE THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUES HIGH OVER NORTHEAST
KANSAS TONIGHTT. THUS A FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT.
