NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TOPEKA KS
245 PM CDT WED JUN 28 1989

AT 340 PM AND INTENSE THUNDERSTORM WAS LOCATED NEAR FORT RILEY JUST
TO NORTHEAST OF JUNTION CITY. THIS THUNDERSTORM COULD PRODUCE LOCALLY
HEAVY RAINS AND INTENSE LIGHTNING OVER NORTHEASTERN GEARY AND SOUTHEAST
RILEY COUNTIES TIL AROUND 430 PM.

OTHER VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE LOCATED JUST WEST OF MARYSVILLE
AND ALSO ABOUT 35 MILES SOUTHEAST OF EMPORIA EAST OF BURLINGTON.
MOVEMENT WAS TO THE EAST SOUTHEAST AT 15 MILES AN HOUR.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE SCATTERED ALONG A 20 MILE WIDE BAND FROM
NEAR MARYSVILLE ACROSS MANHATTAN TO 35 MILES SOUTHEAST OF EMPORIA.
MOVEMENT WAS TO THE SOUTHEAST AT 15 MILES AN HOUR.

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORM DROPPING VERY HEAVY RAINS HAVE BOILED UP
RAPIDLY ACROSS NORTHEAST AND EASTCENTRAL KANSAS LATE THIS AFTERNOON.
MOST OF STORMS WERE WEST AND SOUTH OF TOPEKA...AND IN THE TOPEKA
VICINITY.

THE STORMS ARE VERY SLOW MOVING AND THUS WILL DROP LARGE AMOUNTS OF
RAIN IN SOME AREAS. FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE A@REAS WILL
OCCUR RAPIDLY. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF NORTHEAST
AND EASTCENTRAL KANSAS TONIGHT.
