KSZ013-014-272305- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TOPEKA KS 505 PM CDT THU APR 27 1989 TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY DEVELOP OVER PARTS OF CENTRAL KANSAS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 THIS EVENING WEST OF A LINE FROM MARYSVILLE TO WESTMORELAND TO WINFIELD. THE WATCH INCLUDES WESTERN PARTS OF NORTHEAST AND EAST CENTRAL KANSAS. SOME NORTHEAST KANSAS COMMUNITIES INCLUDED ARE... MANHATTAN...JUNCTION CITY...MARYSVILLE AND COUNCIL GROVE. AT 5PM THUNDERSTORMS WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN HAD DEVELOPED FROM 20 MILES NORTHWEST TO 35 MILES NORTHNORTHWEST OF TOPEKA IN POTTAWATOMIE AND NEMAHA COUNTIES. THESE STORMS WILL MOVE TO THE NORTHEAST NEAR 30 MPH. NO SEVERE WEATHER IS ASSOCITATED WITH THESE STORMS. A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY TO VERY HEAVY RAIN EXTENDED IN A NORTH TO SOUTH LINE THROUGH CENTRAL KANSAS FROM WEST OF CONCORDIA TO WEST OF WICHITA. THESE STORMS bWERE MOVING TO THE NORTHEAST NEAR 40 MPH AND MAY MOVE INTO THE WEST PARTS OF NORTHEAST AND EAST CENTRAL KANSAS BY 7PM. SCHULTZ
