SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SHREVEPORT LA 335 PM CDT WED JUN 7 1989 ...A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA..NORTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS AND MUCH OF NORTH LOUISIANA OVERNIGHT. A NEAR STATIONARY FRONTAL SYSTEM POSITIONED FROM EAST TO WEST ACROSS THE HEART OF THE ARKLATEX WILL DRIFT SLOWY NORTHWARD THROUGH TONIGHT ..AT THE SAME TIME UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES ARE MOVING EAST OVER THE FRONTAL ZONE FROM THE WEST AND A SERIES OF SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM OUTBREAKS WILL OCCUR OVER THE NEXT 26 HOURS. VERY HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS DURING THE PERIOD ARE EXPECTED...THAT COUPLED WITH ABOVE NORMAL STAGES ON AREA STREAMS AND LAKES AND NEAR SATURATED GROUND CONDITIONS..RAINFALL OVER THE PAST THIRTY DAYS HAS RANGED FROM TEN TO 25 INCHES..MEANS A HIGH PROBABILITY OF FLOODING ONCE AGAIN ACROSS PARTS OF TH AREA. ALONG WITH THE THREAT OF OF FLOOD PRODUCING RAINFALL...A FEW SEVERE STORMS WILL ALSO DEVELOP...FIRST OVER THE EXTREME SOUTH AND WESTERN SECTIONS OF THE AREA...AND OVERNIGHT OVER MUCH OF THE AREA. THUS FAR TODAY RAIFALL HAS RANGED FROM TRACE AMOUNTS IN A SOME AREAS TO ISOLATED TWO INCHE AMOUNTS OVER PARTS OF NORTHEAST TEXAS...SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS AND SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA. OVERNIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING...RAIN- FALL OF TWO TO FOUR INCHES WILL OCCUR OVER A LARGE PART OF THE ARKLATEX WITH STORM TOTALS EXCEEDING SIX INCHES IN SOME OF THE AREA. ALL STREAMS ARE RUNNING HIGH A FEW ARE IN FLOOD...ALL DRAINAGE DITCHES ARE NEAR BANKFULL..THUS ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF TWO TO FOUR INCHES IN THE AREA WILL RESULT IN LOWLAND FLOODING. AT 330 PM CDT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR IN SHREVEPORT SHOWED VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS 15 MILES SOUTH WEST OF DEKALB TEXAS...THIS STORM WILL PRODUCE HAIL AND HIGH WINDS ALONG WITH HEAVY RAINFALL. OTHER STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE SOUTHEAST OF LUFKIN TEXAS..AND EAST OF ALEXANDRIA. WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND RAIN COVER MUCH OF SOUTHERN ARKANSAS AND PARTS OF NORTH LOUISIANA AND NORTHEAST TEXAS INTO SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA. TO THE WEST...A STRONG WEATHER SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPING OVER NORTHCENTRAL TEXAS. THIS SYSTEM WILL INVADE THE AREA FOROM THE WEST TONIGHT AND AFFFCT ALL THE AREA BY THURSDAY MORNING.
