URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD WARNING 
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GREENSBORO NC

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A URBAN AND SMALL 
STREAM FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 200 AM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN 
THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES

   IN THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
      STOKES...ROCKINGHAM

AT 1155 PM POLICE REPORTED FLOODING OF SOME ROADS IN STOKES
COUNTY. IN ROCKINGHAM COUNTY CREEKS WERE OVERFLOWING NEAR THE TOWN
OF RUFFIN. FLOODING WAS ALSO OCCURRING IN LOW LYING AREAS WHERE
THE MAYO AND DAN RIVER MEET. RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
TO FALL OVER THESE COUNTIES FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.
PEOPLE IN THE WARNED AREA SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO PROTECT
LIFE AND PROPERTY.

NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
ESCAPE RISING WATER BY MOVING TO HIGHER GROUND.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY.
THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY.
VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED IMMEDIATELY.
REMEMBER..MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOOD WATERS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED...
ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO
NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
