AT 324 PM CDT...RADAR INDICATED A DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM OVER SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 15 MILES NORTHWEST OF SESSER ILLINOIS OR ABOUT 14 MILES WEST OF MT VERNON ILLINOIS. THIS STORM WAS MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH AND HAS ALREADY PRODUCED GOLD BALL SIZE. IT MAY AFFECT THE NORTHERN PORTIONS OF FRANKLIN AND HAMILTON COUNTIES OF ILLINOIS BETWEEN 4 AND 430 PM CDT. SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE EVANSVILLE IN 355 PM CDT TUE APR 3 1989 AT 345 PM CDT...A VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORM WAS MOVING OVER MT VERNON ILLINOIS...ABOUT 60 MILES NORTHWEST OF EVANSVILLE. THIS VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORM IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND STRONG DAMAGING WIND. THE THUNDERSTORM PRODUCED BASEBALL-SIZE HAIL AT NASHVILLE ILLINOIS AROUND 330 PM. THE STORM WAS ALSO CAUSING EXTREMELY HEAVY RA'IN WITH FREQUENT LIGHTNING. THE STORM WAS MOVING TO THE EAST AT 45 MILES AN HOUR AND WILL ENTER WESTERN WAYNE COUNTY ILLINOIS BETWEEN 4 AND 415 PM CDT.
