SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PENSACOLA FL 1235 PM CDT THU JUN 15 1989 A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT FOR BAY COUNTY AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS OF BAY COUNTY OF NORTHWEST FLORIDA... AT 1230 PM CDT...THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS WERE FROM AROUND MARIANNA IN JACKSON COUNTY AND EXTENDED SOUTHWEST ACROSS WASHINGTON AND BAY COUNTIES AND INTO THE GULF 75 MILES SOUTHWEST OF PANAMA CITY. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MILES AN HOUR. LARGE PATCHES OF RAIN MIXED WITH SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WERE OVER THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE...SOUTH ALABAMA...SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI...AND THE ADJOINING COASTAL WATERS. THE THUNDERSTORMS ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING PERIODS OF VERY HEAVY RAINS CAUSING SOME BRIEF FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...GUSTY WINDS AROUND 45 MILES AN HOUR...FREQUENT LIGHTNING...AND POSSIBLE SMALL HAIL....AND FOR MARINE INTERESTS THEU ADDITIONAL ROUGH SEAS.
