SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAYTONA BEACH FL 135 PM EST THU MAR 23 1989 A SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7PM FOR MUCH OF THE FLORIDA EAST COAST AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS. THIS WATCH INCLUDES ALL OF THE COASTAL COUNTIES FROM JACKSONVILLE TO MIAMI AND EXTENDS INLAND FOR ABOUT 80 MILES TO INCLUDE MARION COUNTY. A COLD FRONT IN THE GULF IS MOVING TOWARD FLORIDA AND SOME POTENTIALLY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE APT TO DEVELOPE ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE FRONT AS IT MOVES ACROSS THE STATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE DAYTONA BEACH AREA NEAR 4PM OR LATER AND INTO BREVARD AND INDIAN RIVER COUNTIES EVEN LATER IN THE AFTERNOON. AT 130PM RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS FROM 50 MILES WEST OF JACKSONVILLE TO GAINESVILLE AND SOUTHWARD TO THE TAMPA BAY AREA. VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IN THE LINE WERE NOTED NEAR LAKE CITY AND 15 MILES SOUTH OF GAINESVILLE. THE THUNDERSTORM LINE IS MOVING EAST AT 25 MILES AND IS APPROACHING OCALA AND SILVER SPRINGS.

AT 200 PM EST WEATHER RADAR SHOWS THUNDERSTORMS APPROACHING THE WESTERN
BORDER OF LAKE COUNTY. THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL PRODUCE STRONG GUSTY WINDS
...HEAVY RAINFALL...FREQUENT LIGHTNING AND POSSIBLE HAIL.
THE STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS WERE APPROACHING THE LAKE COUNTY COMMUNITY
OF LADY LAKE.
THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 30 MILES AN HOUR.
