SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON MS 1040 AM CDT MON MAY 22 1989 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 296 HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI. THE THUNDERSTORMS THAT WERE IN THE WATCH AREA HAVE WEAKENED AND NO LONGER POSE A THREAT TO THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE STATE. THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO REDEVELOP OVER MUCH OF THE STATE THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO TONIGHT.
