THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A TORNADO WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL 800 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY
IN THE NORTH CENTRAL PART OF KANSAS
NORTHERN PHILLIPS
AT 720 PM CDT..NUMEROUS REPORTS OF TORNADO TOUCHDOWNS IN
NORTH PHILLIPS COUNTY NORTH OF PHILLIPSBURG. THE TORNADOS
ARE APPARENTLY ONLY TOUCHING DOWN FOR A SHORT TIME THEN
LIFTING BACK TO THE PARENT CLOUD. THE STORMS WERE MOVING TO
THE NORTHEAST AT 10 MPH.
THIS TORNADO WAS ON THE GROUND AND CAUSING DAMAGE. ALL PERSONS NEAR
THIS DANGEROUS STORM SHOULD TAKE COVER IMMEDIATELY IN A REINFORCED
SHELTER.
FIND SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. BASEMENTS OFFER BEST PROTECTION. SMALL
ROOMS NEAR THE CENTER OF HOMES AND BUILDING ARE ALSO FAIRLY SAFE.
MOBILE HOMES AND VEHICLES OFFER NO SHELTER..SO[ LEAVE THEN. EVEN A
DITCH OR LOW PLACE IS SAFER THEN A MOBILE HOME OR CAR.

KSZ001-007-240030- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GOODLAND KS 630 PM CDT SUN APR 23 1989 AT 620 PM CDT..THE PUBLIC REPORTED A TORNADO ON THE GROUND NEAR LONG ISLAND KANSAS..ABOUT 75 MILES NORTH OF HAYS..IN NORTHERN PHILLIPS COUNTY. TWO UNCONFIRMED REPORTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED AT GOODLAND CONCERNING THESE TORNADOS OR FUNNEL CLOUDS. THE RADAR AT GOODLAND SHOWED A LEVEL ONE RAIN SHOWER WITH TOPS ABOUT 25 THOUSAND FEET IN THE VICINITY OF LONG ISAND..AND THE WEATHER RADAR AT CONCORDIA ALSO CONFIRMS THAT THE RAIN SHOWER IN THE AREA IS QUITE UNLIKELY TO PRODUCE A TORNADO. PERSONS IN NORTHERN PHILLIPS COUNTY SHOULD BE ALERT TO DEVELOPING THUNDER/ STORM IN THE AREA. THE STORMS WILL MOVE NORTHEAST INTO NEBRAKSA. DORSEY
