SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAND ISLAND NE 845 PM CDT SAT JUN 24 1989 ...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH WAS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1000 PM CDT... AT 830 PM CDT AN AREA OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WITH EXTREMELY HEAVY RAINS ...HAIL FROM PEA TO GOLF BALL SIZE...AND BRIEF WINDS TO 60 MPH. ALONG WITH THIS...URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING HAD BEEN REPORTED WITH THE PASSAGE OF MANY OF THESE STORMS. THE AREA COVERED ALL OF SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA WITH THE MOST INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS FROM 15 MILES SOUTHEAST OF GRAND ISLAND TO 30 MILES SOUTH- WEST OF HASTINGS. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WERE 15 MILES WIDE. OTHER LESS INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS WERE FROM 45 TO 50 MILES NORTH THhROUGH NORTHEAST OF GRAND ISLAND TO THE KANSAS BORDER AREA...FROM SOUTH OF HASTINGS TO SOUTHWEST OF HOLDREDGE. THE REMAINDER OF THE AREA CONTAINED MORE MODERATE THUNDERSHOWERS. ALL THIS ACTIVITY WAS MOVING EAST NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH. JFD
