SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ATLANTA GA 745 AM EST TUE FEB 21 1989 A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR A LARGE PART OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST GEORGIA UNTIL 11 AM THIS MORNING. THIS WATCH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE CITY OF ATLANTA...BUT DOES INCLUDE THE COUNTIES TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST OF THE CITY. THE AREAS AROUND GRIFFIN...THOMASTON...COVINGTON...AND MCDONOUGH ARE INCLUDED. THE WATCH ALSO EXTENDS SOUTH TOWARD MACON AND COLUMBUS. AT 745 AM...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR SHOWED A BROAD BAND OF MODERATE RAINS...ALONG WITH SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS... EXTENDING FROM LAKE LANIER SOUTHWEST ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE ATLANTA METRO AREA TO COLUMBUS. THIS AREA WAS MOVING EAST AT 30 MPH. HEAVY RAIN ALONG WITH GUSTY WINDS CAN BE EXPECTED WITH THE THUNDERSTORMS. PEOPLE IN THE NORTHWEST GEORGIA AREA SHOULD REMAIN ALERT AS THESE THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE TO MOVE EAST THIS MORNING. STAY TUNED TO T;HIS STATION FOR THE LATEST WEATHER UPDATES.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT - PEACHTREE CREEK NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ATLANTA GA 755 AM EST TUE FEB 21 1988 ... PEACHTREE CREEK RISING STEADILY ... AT 745 AM EST... THE STAGE ON PEACHTREE CREEK AT THE NORTHSIDE DRIVE GAGE WAS 10.1 FEET AND THE RIVER WAS RISING. FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN IN ATLANTA SINCE MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT... AND THIS WILL RESULT IN A CREST OF ABOUT 13 TO 14 FEET AT NORTHSIDE DRIVE AROUND 10 THIS MORNING. FLOOD STAGE ON PEACHTREE CREEK AT NORTHSIDE DRIVE IS 17 FEET... BUT THIS STAGE WILL CAUSE SOME MINOR FLOODING ON PARTS OF WOODWARD WAY AND LOWER LYING AREAS OF THE BOBBY JONES GOLF COURSE. NO MAJOR FLOODING IS EXPECTED. ANOTHER STATEMENT WILL BEE ISSUED LATER THIS MORNING.
