SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ATLANTA GA 1250 PM EDT WED JUN 28 1989 ...THUNDERSTORMS RAPIDLY DEVELOPING OVER NORTHWEST GEORGIA... THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN HAVE DEVELOPED RAPIDLY IN THE PAST HOUR OVER NORTHWEST GEORGIA. AT 1245 PM RADAR INDICATED THE THUNDERSTORM WITH THE HEAVIEST RAIN WAS LOCATED IN EASTERN POLK COUNTY NEAR ROCKMART. THIS THUNDERSTORM MAY ALSO CONTAIN HAIL ALONG WITH GUSTY WINDS. ALL THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING TO THE NORTHEAST AT 15 MPH. THE AIR OVER NORTHWEST GEORGIA IS VERY HOT AND UNSTABLE. THEREFORE RESIDENTS CAN EXPECT MORE THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP DURING THE AFTERNOON. SOME OF THESE WILL BRING LOCALLY HEAVY DOWNPOURS WHICH MAY TEMhPORARILY FLOOD STREETS. STAY TUNED TO THIS STATION FOR FURTHER UPDATES THIS AFTERNOON.
