SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DEL RIO TX 935 PM CDT SAT JUN 10 1989 ...A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR VAL VERDE COUNTY UNTIL 1100 PM CDT... AT 930 PM CDT RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS FROM 60 MILES NORTHEAST OF DEL RIO TO 80 MILES SOUTHWEST. MUCH LIGHTNING AND A LITTLE RAIN ACCOMPANIED SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS AS THEY PUSHED THROUGH DEL RIO AND SOUTHEAST VAL VERDE COUNTY IN THE LAST HOUR. ANOTHER BAND OF SHOWERS WAS ABOUT 80 MILES NORTHWEST OF DEL RIO AND APROACHING VAL VERDE COUNTY. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE GENERALLY MOVING TO THE EAST AT AROUND 15 MPH. THERE WERE REPORTS OF STRONG GUSTY WINDS FROM THE THUNDERSTORMS IN THE COMSTOCK AREA AROUND 9 PM BUT NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED. LIGHTNING IS AN UNDERRATED DANGER...WHICH KILLS HUNDREDS OF AMERICANS EVERY YEAR. REMAINING INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS DURING A LIGHTNING STORM IS THE SAFEST COURSE OF ACTION. REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PEOPLE IN THIS AREA SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANTONIO, TX 947 PM CDT SAT JUN 10 1989 AT 945 PM RADAR INDICATED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IN THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY EXTENDING SOUTHWEST TO NEAR EAGLE PASS. THE STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS WERE BETWEEN UVALDE AND LEAKEY. MOVEMENT OF THE THUNDERSTORMS WAS TO THE EAST AT 15 TO 20 MILES AND HOUR. FREQUENT LIGHTNING...BRIEF HEAVY RAIN...GUSTY WINDS AND POSSIBLE HAIL CAN BE EXPECTED WITH THESE THUNDERSTORMS. PERSONS IN THE TEXAS HILL CONTRY AND MOTORISTS WEST OF SAN ANTONIO SHOULD BE ALERT AND EXERCISE CAUTION SHOULD A THUNDERSTORM BE ENCOUNTERED. AT 1025 PM...RADAR SHOWED A BROKEN LINE...15 MILES WIDE...EXTENDING FROM 45 MILES WEST OF WACO PAST LAKE BUCHANAN AND MARBLE FALLS TO LLANO AND ON TO SOUTH OF JUNCTION. THE LINE IS MOVING TO THE SOUTH- EAST AT 25 MPH. BRIEF HEAVY RAINS...GUSTY WINDS AND LIGHTNING ARE LIKELY AS THESE STORMS MOVE ACROSS THE HILL COUNTRY AND HIGHLAND LAKES DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS.
