FLASH FLOOD WARNING 
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE COLUMBIA MO
422 PM CDT FRI AUG 25 1989

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING 
EFFECTIVE UNTIL 730 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING 
COUNTIES

   IN THE CENTRAL PART OF MISSOURI
      HICKORY...WESTERN CAMDEN

AT 415 PM CDT RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN
IN AN AREA 25 MILES WIDE FROM 45 MILES SOUTHWEST OF SEDALIA TO
50 MILES SOUTHEAST OF SEDALIA.  THESE STORMS WERE MOVING SLOWLY
TO THE EAST.  THE HICKORY COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED ONE AND
ONE-HALF INCHES OF RAIN BETWEEN 345 AND 415 PM.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.
MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY.
NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

 THESE STORMS WILL BE MOVING OVER ALREADY SATURATED GROUND IN HICKORY
 AND CAMDEN COUNTIES.
