SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DUBUQUE IA 405 PM CDT WED APR 26 1989 ...TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 1100 AM CDT... AT 400 PM CDT STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING THROUGH DELAWARE COUNTY IN NORTHEAST IOWA. THE MORE INTENSE STORM WAS LOCATED JUST SOUTHWEST OF DELAWARE COUNTY...JUST WEST OF THE CITY OF ROBINSON 45 MILES SOUTHWEST OF DUBUQUE. THE STORMS WERE MOVING EAST AT 30 MILES AN HOUR AND WILL PRODUCE WIND IN EXCESS OF 50 MILE S AN HOUR WITH HAIL POSSIBLE. IN THREATENING WEATHER IS SIGHTED...TAKE COVER IMMEIATELY. KOWALSKI

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOLINE IL 412 PM CDT WED APR 26 1989 RADAR SHOWS A WIDE BAND OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVING INTO NORTHEASTERN IOWA AND APPROACHING A DUBUQUE-CEDAR RAPIDS LINE. STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE IN THE LEADING EDGE OF THE BAND AND WERE PRODUCING STRONG GUSTY WINDS...HEAVY RAIN AND HAIL. WIND GUSTS OF 50 TO 70 MPH WERE REPORTED NORTHWEST OF CEDAR RAPIDS AROUND 4 PM CDT. MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS WAS TO THE SOUTHEAST ABOUT 40 MPH. WIGGINS
