SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MERIDIAN MS 120 PM CST TUE JAN 19 1988 TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 5 CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF EAST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI AND EXTREME WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA UNTIL 600 PM CST. AT 115 PM RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS THAT EXTENDED FROM NEAR STARKVILLE THROUGH PHILADELPHIA TO NEAR FLORENCE. ALSO THERE WAS A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS THAT WAS BETWEEN RALEIGH AND TYLERTOWN. BOTH LINES WERE MOVING EAST. SO FAR THIS AFTERNOON NO SEVERE WEATHER HAS BEEN REPORTED IN EAST MISSISSIPPI...BUT THERE WAS A REPORT OF SMALL HAIL AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS IN SOUTHERN WINSTON COUNTY ABOUT 10 MINUTES AGO. ALL IN EAST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI AND EXTREME WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA ARE URGED TO REMAIN ALERT FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE WEATHER THIS AFTERNOON.
