SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANTONIO TX 320 PM CDT FRI SEP 16 1988 ...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE RIO GRANDE PLAINS... AS THE CENTER OF HURRICANE GILBERT MOVES ASHORE SOUTH OF BROWNSVILLE... STRONG DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE FELT THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT ALONG THE LOWER TEXAS COAST...LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND INLAND INTO THE RIO GRANDE PLAINS. THE CITY OF LAREDO AND SURROUNDING AREA OF THE BRUSH COUNTRY WILL CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE NORTHEAST WINDS GUSTING UP TO 50 MPH TONIGHT UNTIL THE REMNANTS OF THE HURRICANE GRADUALLY DISSIPATE OVER NORTHERN MEXICO AND SOUTHERN TEXAS.
