000 TTAA00 KSSM 170220 SVRSSM MIC031-170330- BULLETIN...IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AND SPECIAL MARINE WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAULT STE MARIE MI 1020 PM EDT TUE AUG 16 1988 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AND SPECIAL MARINE WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1130 PM EDT FOR PERSONS IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN...CHEBOYGAN...AND THE ADJOINING COASTAL WATERS OF CHEBOYGAN COUNTY...INCLUDING THE STRAITS OF MACKINAC... AT 1020 PM EDT RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM 7 MILES WEST OF THE CITY OF CHEBOYGAN...OR ABOUT 5 MILES SOUTHEAST TO THE STRAITS OF MACKINAC BRIDGE...MOVING TO THE EAST AT ABOUT 45 MILES AN HOUR. IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM...GET TO A REINFORCED BUILDING. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE STRONG DAMAGING WIND..LARGE HAIL..VERY HEAVY RAIN..AND FREQUENT LIGHTNING. THEY OCCASIONALLY DO SPAWN A TORNADO WITH LITTLE OR NO ADVANCE WARNING..SO BE ON THE LOOKOUT. SMALL BOAZTS ARE ADVISED TO SEEK SAFE HARBOR IMMEDIATELY.
