SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SHREVEPORT LA 950 AM CDT MON APR 13 1987 TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT FOR A LARGE AREA...INCLUDING MUCH OF NORTHEAST TEXAS...SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS AND NORTHWEST LOUISIANA. AT 950 AM CDT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR IN SHREVEPORT WAS SHOW- ING A AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS..EXTEND- ING SOUTHWEST ACROSS NORTHWEST LOUISIANA TO THE TOLEOD BEND COUNTRY. WITHIN THE AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED OVER SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS AND EXTREME NORTHWEST LOUISIANA. THE STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE NORTH OF MURFREESBORO IN SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS AND NEAR HOPE...ALSO SOUTHEAST OF LEWISVILLE. THE STRONG THUNDERSTRORMS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE HEAVY RAINFALL STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND HAIL. MOVMENT WAS TOWARD THE NORTH NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH. TO THE WEST...A LINE OF SEVERE STORMS WERE MOVING EAST INTO NORTHEAST TEXAS. THE LINE WAS LOCATED AT 950 AM CDT 30 MILES SOUTHWEST PF PARIS TEXAS TO APPROCHING TYLER TO NEAR COLLEGE STATION. THE SYSTEM WILL SPREAD EAST AT 30 TO 40 MPH AND PRODUCE SEVERE STORMS ACROSS NORTHEAST TEXAS THIS MORNING..AND AFFECT SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS AND NORTHWEST LOUISIANA THIS AFTERNOON. HIGH DAMAGING WINDS WILL LIKELY OCCUR ALONG WITH LARGE HAIL AND POSSIBLE TORNADOES. ALSO NEW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP AHEAD OF THIS LINE OVER NORTHEAST TEXAS AND NORTHWEST LOUISIANA.
