SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH/DURHAM, NC
740 PM EDT WED JUN 3 1987

A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT ACROSS NORTHEASTERN NORTH
CAROLINA...FROM AROUND TARBORO EASTWARD TO THE COAST.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT FOR PORTIONS
OF THE FOOTHILLS...PIEDMONT...SANDHILLS...AND NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
COASTAL PLAIN.

AT 730 PM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF INTENSE
THUNDERSTORMS JUST NORTH OF THE NORTH CAROLINA VIRGINIA LINE FROM
NEAR DANVILLE TO NEAR MURFREESBORO. THIS LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS
IS MOVING TO THE SOUTHEAST AT 25 MPH.

THE STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS ARE LOCATED JUST NORTH OF KERR LAKE AND NEAR
SOUTH HILL. THESE STORMS SHOULD BE OF SEPCIAL INTEREST TO BOATERS ON
KERR LAKE AS THEY PASS INTO NORTH CAROLINA.
A SECOND SMALL AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS HAS FORMED NEAR ASHEBORO IN
RANDOLPH COUNTY. THESE STORM WERE ALSO MOVING TO THE SOUTHEAST AT
25 MPH.
