IF YOU ARE IN AN AREA THREATENED BY THE STORM..GO TO A REINFORECED SHELTER AND PREPARE FOR DAMAGING WIND...LARGE HAIL...VERY HEAVY RAIN AND LIGHTNING. BURNS

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDIANAPOLIS INDIANA 430 PM EST SUN JUL 5 1987 A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9PM EST FOR PARTS OF SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH CENTRAL INDIANA. AT 420 PM EST A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WAS RACING ACROSS SOUTHWEST INDIANA. THE LINE OF STORMS WAS FROM ABOUT 15 MILES SOUTH WEST OF TERRE HAUTE TO NEAR VINCENNES TO EAST OF EVANSVILLE. SOME OF THE HEAVIER STORMS WILL PRODUCE GUSTY WINDS AND DRENCHING RAINS AS THEY MOVE EAST AT 35 TO 40 MILES AN HOUR. EDWARDS

AT 440 PM EST A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER EASTCENTRAL ILLINOIS WAS MOVING RAPIDLY TOWARD TERRE HAUTE. THE STORMS COULD PRODUCE GUSTY WINDS OF AROUND 45 MILES AN HOUR AND VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS. THE STORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MILES AN HOUR AND SHOULD ENTER THE TERRE HAUTE AREA BY 520 PM EST. THE STORMS WERE PART OF A LARGE AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS COVERING MUCH OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND SOUTHWEST AND SOUTHCENTRAL INDIANA.
