AT 515 PM CHARLOTTE WEATHER RADAR SHOWED VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTHERN CATAWBA COUNTY NEAR HICKORY. ANOTHER HEAVY THUNDER- STORM IN RUTHERFORD COUNTY IS MOVING EAST AND IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO CLEVELAND COUNTY BY 6 PM. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING TO THE EAST AT ABOUT 20 MPH AND WILL BE ACCOMPANIED WITH HEAVY DOWNPOURS...FREQUENT LIGHTING...GUSTY WINDS AND POSSIBLE HAIL. STORM REPORT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ASHEVILLE NORTH CAROLINA 605 PM EDT WED JUN 3 1987 THE BURKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT REPORTED THAT A VERY LARGE TREE HAD BEEN UPROOTED BY HIGH WINDS AT APPROXIMATELY 445 PM NEAR MORAGANTON. THIS TREE WAS BLOWN ONTO THE EASTBOUND LANES OF INTERSTATE 40 AND TOTALLY BLOCKED EASTBOUND TRAFFIC. AS OF 530 PM TRAFFIC WAS STILL IMPEDED BY THIS TREE. GRC
