SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PUEBLO CO 135 PM MDT MON JUN 23 1986 ...VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP IN BACA COUNTY... VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS HAD DEVELOPED AT 130 PM MDT THIS AFTERNOON IN BACA COUNTY OF EXTREME SOUTHEAST COLORADO. THE STORMS WERE FORMING A LINE IN NORTHCENTRAL AND EASTERN BACA COUNTY FROM NEAR SPRINGFIELD TO EAST SOUTHEAST OF WALSH. THE HEAVIEST STORM WAS EAST OF SPRINGFIELD. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING SLOWLY SOUTHWEST 5 TO 10 MILES AN HOUR. OTHER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE OVER THE SOUTHERN FOOTHILLS OF SOUTHEAST COLORADO FROM NORTHWEST OF CANON CITY IN FREMONT COUNTY TO WEST OF RATON NEW MEXICO. THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON OVER MUCH OF SOUTHEAST COLORADO. SOME OF THE STORMS COULD PRODUCE VERY HEAVY RAIN.. STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND HAIL. STAY TUNED TO RADIO..TV OR NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR LATER STATEMENTS WHICH WILL BE ISSUED AS THE THUNDERSTORM SITUATION WARRANTS. GRAY

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE COLORADO SPRINGS CO 155 PM MDT MON JUN 23 1986 ...THUNDERSTORMS OVER CENTRAL EL PASO..SOUTHERN ELBERT AND EASTERN KIT CARSON COUNTIES IN COLORADO... AT 145 PM MDT THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON..THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN AND SMALL HAIL WERE OVER THE CENTRAL PART OF EL PASO COUNTY NEAR COLORADO SPRINGS..SOUTHERN ELBERT COUNTY 30 MILES SOUTHWEST OF LIMON AND IN EAST KIT CARSON COUNTY 50 MILES EAST OF LIMON COLORADO. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING TOWARD THE SOUTHWEST AT ONLY 5 TO 10 MPH. THESE SHOWERS WILL CONTAIN HEAVY RAIN..SMALL HAIL AND OCCASIONAL STRONG GUSTY WINDS. 1/4 INCH HAIL WAS REPORTED AT THE AIRPORT AT COLORADO SPRINGS AT 140 PM. SOME SMALL STREAM AND ROADWAY FLOODING IS POSSIBLE WITH SOME OF THESE SHOWERS. INTENSE..DEADLY LIGHTNING WILL ALSO ACCOMPANY THESE STORMS..SO GET TO A PLACE OF SAFETY WHEN LIGHTNING IS NEARBY. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THESE THUNDERSTORMS AND WILL ISSUE PERIODIC STATEMENTS..WARNINGS IF NECESSARY DURING THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. MOORE
