NCEI Storm Data entries that began inside the alert's area while it was in force. Before 2003 the local storm report archive is thin, so this is the record of what happened rather than what was phoned in. Storm Data before 1996 records only tornadoes, thunderstorm wind and hail.

Special weather statement, Mar 17, 2:58 PM CST, 5 hours 14 minutes before
OKLAHOMA THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OKLAHOMA CITY OK
300 PM CST MON MAR 17 1986

THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LATE THIS AFTERNOON
AND TONIGHT OVER ALL OF OKLAHOMA EXCEPT FOR THE PANHANDLE AND EXTREME
WEST. THE RISK AREA IS EAST OF A HOLLIS-CHEYENNE-SELING-ALVA LINE.

A VERY STRONG UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM OVER NEW MEXICO THIS AFTERNOON
WILL SWEEP ACROSS OKLAHOMA TONIGHT. AT THE SURFACE AN INTENSE LOW
PRESSURE CENTER IS DEVELOPING OVER EASTERN COLORADO.. RESULTING IN
STRONG SOUTH WINDS OVER ALL OF OKLAHOMA. WINDS ALOFT ARE ALSO VERY
STRONG.. WITH WEST WINDS OF OVER 130 MPH AT THE JET STREAM LEVEL.
THIS WIND PATTERN IS FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDER
STORMS. HOWEVER ANOTHER IMPORTANT INGREDIENT FOR SEVERE WEATHER IS
MISSING - LOW LEVEL MOISTURE. DESPITE THE SOUTH WIND.. MOISTURE AT
LOW LEVELS PRESENTLY IS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR SEVERE WEATHER DEVELOPMENT.

THE MOISTURE NEEDED IS MOVING SLOWLY NORTHWARD FROM TEXAS AND SHOULD
MOVE INTO OKLAHOMA BY EVENING. A DRY LINE MARKING THE WESTERN EDGE OF
THE MOISTURE IS DEVELOPING ACROSS WEST TEXAS.. AND WILL BE DRIVEN
EASTWARD INTO OKLAHOMA TONIGHT BY THE UPPER SYSTEM. AS THE DRYLINE AND
THE UPPER SYSTEM ENCOUNTER BETTER MOISTURE.. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY
DEVELOP NEAR THE DRYLINE LATE THIS AFTERNOON IN WESTERN OKLAHOMA. THE
CHANCE OF SEVERE WEATHER WILL INCREASE OVER CENTRAL AND EASTERN
OKLAHOMA AFTER SUNSET AS THE DRYLINE CONTINUES EASTWARD. THE STRONG
WIND FIELD IS FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THUNDERSTORMS WITH
DAMAGING WINDS AND POSSIBLY A FEW TORNADOES.. HOWEVER THE CURRENT LACK
OF DEEP MOISTURE AT LOW LEVELS MAY PREVENT A WIDESPREAD OUTBREAK.

WE RECOMMEND THAT SPOTTER NETWORKS IN WESTERN OKLAHOMA BE ON STANDBY
FOR POSSIBLE ACTION THIS AFTERNOON.. AND THOSE IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN
OKLAHOMA BE READY FOR ACTIVATION LATER THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT.

THE STRENGTH OF THIS STORM SYSTEM SUGGESTS THAT SEVERE WEATHER.. ONCE
IT DEVELOPS.. COULD CONTINUE IN EASTERN OKLAHOMA WELL INTO THE NIGHT
AND POSSIBLY INTO TUESDAY MORNING IN THE EASTERN THIRD OF THE STATE.
NOWCASTS AND/OR SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS WILL BE ISSUED TO KEEP
YOU INFORMED ON THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER SITUATION.

AT 415PM THIS AFTERNOON RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS FORMING WEST OF
WICHITA FALLS FROM CHILDRESS TO CROWELL. DEVELOPMENT OF THESE STORMS
WERE RAPID AND WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 50 MPH.

THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL INCREASE OVER THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON AND
TONIGHT WITH A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. BRIEF HEAVY RAIN..
VERY GUSTY WIND..HAIL AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING WILL ACCOMPANY THE THUNDER-
STORMS.

MONITER YOUR RADIO..TELEVISION..OR NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR INFORMATION
