OKLAHOMA THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OKLAHOMA CITY OK 300 PM CDT SAT JUN 14 1986 A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR PARTS OF NORTHERN OKLAHOMA UNTIL 9PM THIS EVENING. OTHERWISE THERE IS A CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS OVER ALL OF OKLAHOMA EXCEPT FOR THE SOUTHEAST. WARM MOIST AIR HAS SPREAD ACROSS THE STATE WHILE A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH EXTENDS FROM NORTHEAST KANSAS TO SOUTHWEST OKLAHOMA. CONDITIONS IN THE ATMOSPERE ABOVE US ARE CERTAINLY UNSTABLE AND WILL ENHANCE LIFTING OF THE MOISTURE. THIS SITUATION HAS ALREADY TRIGGERED THUNDERSTORMS OF WHICH A FEW HAVE BEEN SEVERE. THE UPPER LEVEL WINDS ARE NOT VERY STRONG..THUS THE STORMS WILL NOT MOVE VERY FAST. THIS WILL ALLOW VERY HEAVY RAINFALL TO STAY OVER AN AREA LONGER THAN NORMAL WHICH COULD CAUSE LOCALIZED FLOODING. THE SURFACE TEMPERATURES ARE ALSO WARMING INTO THE 90S AND WITH THE RAIN COOLED AIR FROM THE THUNDERSTORMS.. WINDS COULD REACH 60 TO 70 MP;H. WE DO NOT EXPECT TORNADO ACTIVITY..ONLY LARGE HAIL, STRONG WINDS, AND VERY HEAVY RAINFALL FROM SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS. THE GREATEST THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS IS WEST OF A LINE FROM FORT SMITH TO DURANT.
