THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1030 PM MDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES:
IN SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO
..EXTREME SOUTHEASTERN CHAVES..EASTERN AND NORTHERN EDDY
WHICH INCLUDES THE CITY OF CARLSBAD.
AT 920 PM MDT...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WAS REPORTED BY THE PUBLIC
BETWEEN HOPE AND ARTESIA NEW MEXICO. HAIL UP TO AN INCH IN DIAMETER
WAS REPORTED WITH THIS STORM.
AT 930 PM MDT...RADAR SHOWED THIS THUNDERSTORM HAD MOVED TO BETWEEN
ARTESIA AND LAKE ARTHUR WITH ANOTHER EQUALLY STRONG THUNDERSTORM
LOCATED JUST NORTHWEST AND NORTH OF CARLSBAD. THESE THUNDERSTORMS
ARE MOVING TO THE EAST NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH WHILE DEVLOPING TO THE
SOUTH.
WHEN THUNDERSTORMS ARE OCCURRING...PEOPLE SHOULD MOVE INSIDE A
STRONG BUILDING. DO NOT STAND BY WINDOWS. DON/T USE TELEPHONES

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIDLAND TX 940 PM CDT THU OCT 23 1986 AT 930 PM VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS WERE JUST SOUTH OF PECOS IN REEVES COUNTY MOVING SOUTH AT 25 MILES AN HOUR. STRONG GUSTY WINDS..SMALL HAIL ..DANGEROUS LIGHTNING AND HEAVY RAINFALL HAVE BEEN REPORTED BY THE PECOS DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY IN THE PAST HOUR. VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS WERE IN ANDREWS COUNTY. THUNDERSTORMS WERE DEVELOPOING BETWEEN ROSWELL AND CARLSBAD CAVERNS...AND IN THE BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK. MOVEMENT WAS SOUTHEAST AT 20 MILES AN HOUR. STAY ALERT FOR RAPID CHANGES IN THE WEATHER AND LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR UPDATES AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
